Some of you may be aware that we help run a small local show called Grill-n-Chill which this year happens over the weekend of 18-20th September. It’s a laid back show aimed at families and friends and is open to all classic cars, not just air-cooled VW’s. Why not come join us for the weekend of just a day, you’ll have fun and make lots of new friends too.
Tickets are now available online for this years Grill-n-Chill. Those of you that can’t make it along to another show before Grill-n-Chill this September, can buy them online and save money over the on-the-gate price.
Buying tickets in advance includes FREE camping and remember, children under 15 get in free when accompanied by a ticket holding adult. What are you waiting for?
A short message from one of the founding fathers Lee Bartle about how Paintscrapers started…
10 years ago, with the assist of Adam Plummer, and the occasional nagging from Paul Campbell, I got myself out of a vicious cycle I had got caught up in, got my arse to the Volksworld Show and met up with some old friends I’d not seen since the good days of the Mega-Low-Maniax.
Julian Hunt then helped hook me up with a 59 splitty, more friends were made, Roger Brown, Del (Degz) and word was spread about that a new club was forming. From what had been started by a few, now non attending friends, ‘Der Panzer Paintscrapers’ was born.
10 years on and most of the founding members are no longer about through whatever reason, but I feel we all owe them a thank you. Roger, Degz, and the couple that actually kick started it whom I cannot name, I salute you. Thanks for helping me get out of my reclusive hole and for allowing me to get back in touch with a lot of good old friends and allow me to make many others.
Also I have to mention Darren Claggett, Dereck Johnson, Anton Murrells, Jon Planner for all their work throughout the years with the club. James Wotton also deserves a shout too for being hands on the best engineer that we as scrapers could ask for, constantly busy and probably 90% off his time is keeping our cars on the road. Well done all and we’ll done on 10 years of ‘Scraping’
Grill-n-Chill is only a week away and we’re all getting quite excited, well some of us are beginning to panic too. Anyway Paintscrapers will be there in force, with many club members helping out over the weekend.
This is Grill-n-Chill’s 4th year and it could be be the busiest, most chilled one so far. Organised by VW enthusiasts, Grill-n-Chill will be back at The Hop Farm in the heart of Kent. The great location is less than an hour away from London and close to the channel crossings, making it easy for our friends from mainland Europe to visit.
Deimos Air Cooled have once again kindly sponsored Grill-n-Chill, which is fast becoming a firm favourite with many people. It’s a full weekend show with great traders and some great entertainment including live music and the Cool Flo Old School BMX show-n-shine competition and display, plus access to some of the Hop Farms attractions. With many great things to entertain the whole family it’s sure to be a great weekend. but club camping must be booked in advance.
For full show details and to buy tickets visit grill-n-chill.co.uk, find it on Facebook or catch one of the Paintscrapers crew at shows throughout the year.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
What an absolute blast the weekend has been. Paintscrapers certainly got themselves noticed for all the right reasons! First, we were the only club to camp on the space reserved for club camping. This led to us have a massive amount of space and absolutely no neighbours at all. We even had our own exclusive access to some very well looked after toilets.

Yet another barnstorming club meet this month, thanks to all that turned up. Once again we packed the Danson Stables carpark out with a vast selection of quality rides. Both air and watercooled VW’s and Porsche’s were parked up. Beetles and Buses were carefully squeezed into every space available. It wasn’t just the vehicles that impressed this month, the friendly atmosphere was oozing from every corner. Hopefully all the newbee’s that turned up were made to feel welcome and will come back next month for more fun, we look forward to seeing you all again.
What a night! Paintscrapers normally pack out the car park of the Danson Stables with an amazing variety of cool rides, but this month we were honoured to welcome the guys & girls from Prept for the evening. This meant that not only was the pub car park full, so was the park one too. An amazing selection of vehicles were on display both air and water cooled.
Organised by VW enthusiasts, Grill-n-Chill returns for its fourth year, back at The Hop Farm in the heart of Kent. This great location is less than an hour away from London and close to the channel crossings. There’s plenty of room to camp, loads of traders for you to spend your money with and many great things to entertain the whole family Grill-n-Chill is sure to be a great weekend.

These new beams are a direct replacement for the original unit but with custom looks and manufactured here in the UK from high quality material. They can be fitted on all Bay Window Buses and Splitscreen Buses as long as you are happy to run Ball Joint suspension. If you wish to convert your Split Screen Bus to ball joint front suspension then Cool Air can also supply all the parts you need.
Cool Air have been working on the design and manufacture of these beams for over 10 months. Every detail has been carefully designed and manufactured to the highest standard, here in the UK, using the highest quality materials. The end result has meant that there is no equal product currently on the market in design, quality and price. Currently these GermanWagen beams are currently available in two flavours.
Standard width ball joint
Narrowed width ball joint, 65mm (2 9/16″) narrower than standard for the ultimate custom look.
- Laser cut side plates
- Cold drawn seamless tubes
- Acetal high quality torsion arm inner bushes
- Top quality INA outer needle roller bearings, which were the preferred bearing used by Volkswagen
- Pair of steering damper mounts
- Pair of steering stops
- Pair of brake servo mounts, which have been set at the correct angle unlike any other beam on the market. They have also been manufactured with multi position holes making them truely universal for all current servos on the market including original ATE, Brazilian and aftermarket versions.
- German quality steering idler pin
- New grease nipples
- Built in caster to improve handling
Rob has a prototype at the shop at the moment and has such faith in the design and build quality that he’s asked James Wotton at Vee Dub (020 8317 2973) to install it on his Split in January. So you can pop down to Cool Air before hand and have a look at it before it gets fitted.
We can also supply the leaves pre narrowed to our beam off the shelf.
Sold outright, with no exchange required, these new beams should be available mid February. We don’t have a price for these, but Rob has promised to let us know first. It’s A Dub Life has been produced by club member Rachel Johnston as part of her 3rd year BA photography course. Rachel has been studying photography at the University of Greenwich and you may have come across her pointing her camera in your direction at many VW shows over the last few years.
It’s the marriage of her passion for photography and love of VW’s that has driven her to produce this book as part of her final year project. It’s A Dub Life is a 32 page, full colour publication completely published by Rachel herself. Each shoot covers a double page spread, showing both owners and their VWs, delivering a great example of the personalities within our scene. Although started as a photographic project, Rachel encouraged each owner to explain their own story and has included the stories to complement her images.[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/It-s-A-Dub-Life02.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”400″ crop=”false” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/4949354-it-s-a-dub-life” target=”_blank” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”center” margin_bottom=”10″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”false” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]Even though this project was a lot of work Rachel thoroughly enjoyed producing it and is now considering continuing throughout the coming season, so I guess we should look out for volume 2 soon. After Rachel graduates next summer she has her goals set high and would love to become a commercial photographer, shooting features for magazines and advertising.
It’s A Dub Life is available in both hard and soft cover which you can order direct via Rachel’s blurb site.
You can find more examples of Rachel’s photography on her Roo 92 Photography Facebook page.[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/It-s-A-Dub-Life01.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”400″ crop=”false” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” link=”http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/4949354-it-s-a-dub-life” target=”_blank” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”center” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
