New Split Bus engine lids now available from Cool Air

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/coolair_post_banner.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”140″ crop=”false” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”20″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]What is it with Cool Air gang? No sooner do we finish telling you about those new Bug beams, then they tell us they have another new product available. This one’s for all you Split Bus owners, brand new replacement engine lids. Designed to fit all Split Screen type II’s  from August 1958 to August 1965. The neat touch with these Bus engine lids is that they are not supplied with the engine lid spring bracket attached, making them universal. OK, so that means you’ll have to do a little bit of measuring and then weld the bracket in the right place, but that’s a small price to pay for a rot-free engine lid. And guess what? We have the measurements for you too…

For Split Buses from May 1958 to 1963 (chassis number 351 736 – 1 222 025) the bracket must be welded 115mm from the top of the engine lid.

For Buses from 1963 to August 1965 (chassis number 1 222 026 – 216 000 001) the bracket must be welded 65mm from top.

As for the price, well they RRP £324.50. So what are you waiting for? Head on over to www.coolairvw.co.uk to order your today, quicker still is to give the guys a call on 01322 335050.[/vc_column_text][mk_image_slideshow images=”1662,1663″ image_width=”792″ image_height=”350″ effect=”fade” animation_speed=”700″ slideshow_speed=”7000″ pause_on_hover=”false” smooth_height=”true” direction_nav=”true”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/coolair_post_banner.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”140″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”40″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]What’s going on down at Cool Air? They appear to be constantly pumping out new products, which is great news for us. The boys have been in contact to let us know that they can now supply genuine VW reconditioned front balljoint beams for Beetles (1966-79). Not only are these great quality beams and fantastic value, but the price includes a full set of torsion leaves already installed. These reconditioned beams are stock width and left hand drive (LHD) off the shelf. However, for a small fee, Cool Air have the facilities to convert the beams to right hand drive (RHD).

£149.50 gets you a LHD beam with torsion leaves installed.

£104.50 buys you a bare LHD beam only.

For an extra £24 Cool Air will convert the beam to RHD for you.

If you’re after a replacement beam buy one of these rather then a second hand one that you don’t know the history of. To get your dirty hands on one of these vista Cool Air’s website and don’t forget to tell them who sent you.

Buttys Bits CV hardware kits

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/butty-cv-02a.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”330″ crop=”false” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”40″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”30″]If you’re not familiar with Buttys Bits then a little background may be needed. Simon ‘Butty’ Butland is a close friend of the club and has been involved in the VW scene since the mid 90’s, owning various motors along the way, but is a true Bus-Boy. While trying to improve his VW’s, like most of us, he found that there were many parts that were either not available or poorly made. However, unlike most of us, Butty didn’t just sit round moaning, he got of his butt, and used his engineering background to design and develop some high quality parts to solve these issues.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/butty-throttle-kit02.jpg” image_width=”300″ image_height=”220″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]Butty has various parts from wheel adapters and spacers to horse shoe plates and some nice mugs. Probably his most famous offering are his legendary Throttle Kits, for both Split & Bay buses.

These are true works of art. They’re so lovely to look at it’s a shame to hide them under your bus. We’ll cover these in a separate article as they really do deserve they’re own space. And as such we’ll be covering those at a later date, in a full ‘How to’ article.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]The reason for this short piece to let everyone know that Butty has been hard at work producing yet another barnstorming new kit, CV fitting hardware, starting with spreader plates for Bay Window and T25 buses. These aren’t like the badly punched ones you get in most kits, they’re precision CNC cut out of sheet steel then zinc passivated to prevent rust. They’re available on their own, but you’ll need 3 per CV joint, for a complete set you’d need 12 in total (3 x 4CV’s).

Why stop at just the spreader plates? Butty can also offer you a full set of allen headed high tensile bolts and some superb locking washers to complete the kit. The washers are something special in themselves as they’re SCHNORR washers with locking serrations, that once torqued up, aren’t going anywhere. Leaving you to drive safe in the knowledge that you’re not going to lose any on that road trip.

Need to get your hands on some of these beauties? Check out buttysbits.com you can also by via Buttys Ebay shop too. Oh, and don’t forget to tell him we sent you.

For a full list of available parts you need to check out buttysbits.com or visit one of the many shows throughout the year as he can normally be found alongside Paintscraper Tim Sykes’ Early VW part emporium.[/vc_column_text][mk_image_slideshow image_width=”792″ image_height=”350″ effect=”fade” animation_speed=”700″ slideshow_speed=”7000″ pause_on_hover=”false” smooth_height=”true” direction_nav=”true” images=”1571,1572,1573,1574,1575,1576″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/coolair_post_banner.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”140″ crop=”false” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”40″]Another new product from the Cool Air gang are these GermanWagen adjustable ball joint beams for Buses. These new beams are a direct replacement for the original unit but with custom looks and manufactured here in the UK from high quality material. They can be fitted on all Bay Window Buses and Splitscreen Buses as long as you are happy to run Ball Joint suspension. If you wish to convert your Split Screen Bus to ball joint front suspension then Cool Air can also supply all the parts you need.

Cool Air have been working on the design and manufacture of these beams for over 10 months. Every detail has been carefully designed and manufactured to the highest standard, here in the UK, using the highest quality materials. The end result has meant that there is no equal product currently on the market in design, quality and price. Currently these GermanWagen beams are currently available in two flavours.

Standard width ball joint
Narrowed width ball joint, 65mm (2 9/16″) narrower than standard for the ultimate custom look.

Rob has a prototype at the shop at the moment and has such faith in the design and build quality that he’s asked James Wotton at Vee Dub (020 8317 2973) to install it on his Split in January. So you can pop down to Cool Air before hand and have a look at it before it gets fitted.
We can also supply the leaves pre narrowed to our beam off the shelf.

Sold outright, with no exchange required, these new beams should be available mid February. We don’t have a price for these, but Rob has promised to let us know first. New Bay Window Bus drop spindles from Cool Air

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://paintscrapers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/coolair_post_banner.jpg” image_width=”792″ image_height=”140″ crop=”false” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”40″]Dropped spindles are a great way to lower your Bus while keeping the original suspension geometry and ride comfort. Basically a dropped spindle is created by moving the bearing spindle vertically upwards on the steering arm, in turn lowering your bus. Drop spindles offer, in theory, a quick and simple way to drop the front of your ride. There’s no welding required and should be achievable by a competent mechanic within a few hours.  Over the years there have been a few different types of dropped spindles on offer.

  • First there are the ‘welded’ type, where two sets of original spindles are used to create one new set of dropped spindles.
  • Second, are the ‘flipped-balljoint’ type, where a standard spindle is machined to accept alternative ball joints, fitted upside-down. This allows the spindle to me mounted above the training arms – instead if the standard possession below them.
  • Third, we have newly manufactured forged spindles, such as these new offerings from Cool Air.

These all new dropped spindles are designed to fit all Bay Window Buses from 1973 to 1979. They can be fitted to early 68-72, Bays, but you will need to use later, 1973 onwards, brake disc’s, callipers, etc. Cool Air can also supply these too, if you need them. They have been designed to fit perfectly in place of your original spindles, without any modification. This means your ball joints will remain the correct way up and will not reach their limit of travel, affording you both correct steering and suspension travel. Unlike other Bus dropped spindles, there is no exchange required, so you can buy these before pulling your current front end apart.

Once installed these forged dropped spindles will lower the front of your Bay by 6cm and they can be used with most alloy wheels, plus original 14″ steel wheel fitted to 1973 to 1979 models. Due to the construction of the spindle the offset of your wheels will be increased by 10mm each side. This means that the wheels will stick further out from their standard position.

Sold in pairs by Cool Air for only £519.50 including VAT. However, don’t forget you will get your usual Paintscrapers club discount – as long as you’re registered with them. If you’re not, then speak to Darren at a club meet and he’ll add you to the list.

Made in the UK and exclusive to Deimos Air Cooled, these oil filler breather boxes feature lightweight polished aluminium construction, exceptional breathing and oil/air separation. They are an open breather design, so no extra plumbing into air filters is required.

They are available as a standalone unit to keep your engine bay free of clutter from breather hoses. Alternatively, they can also be supplied with inlets for valve cover connection, should you require extra engine breathing. Both versions are intended for use on alternator stands. Installation instructions are included with the product to help you with fitting.

As with all products sold by Deimos Air Cooled these are top quality pieces of kit, not cheaply manufactured bits of tin. What may appear at first glance a high price tag, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. However, don’t forget Colin is always ready to support his fellow Paintscrapers and offers regular club members a discount.
